Sen. John Fetterman Released From Hospital
Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, has been released from Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., after seeking treatment for clinical depression. He spent several weeks in the Neuropsychiatry Unit and has now returned home to Pennsylvania to continue his recovery before heading back to work on April 17.
Fetterman shared his gratitude via Twitter following his release, thanking the medical staff at Walter Reed and his supporters. He also encouraged anyone suffering from depression to seek help.
According to doctors, Fetterman was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe symptoms of depression, including lethargy, weight loss, slow thinking and feelings of guilt and worthlessness. He received medication therapy for his depression, and his symptoms gradually improved. Doctors also evaluated his auditory processing abilities, which had been affected by a stroke he suffered in May, and prescribed hearing aids and speech therapy.
Fetterman’s colleague, Bob Casey, visited him recently and reported that he looked and sounded well. POLITICO reports that Fetterman is ready to resume his Senate duties and will be back at work this week.
