Sen. Lindsey Graham responds to Fulton County Grand Jury’s criminal charges recommendation.
Sen. Lindsey Graham Blasts Grand Jury Report Implicating Him in 2020 Election Case
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has strongly criticized a recent grand jury report from Fulton County, Georgia, that implicated him in the 2020 election case. Despite not being charged like former President Donald Trump and 18 others, Graham expressed his frustration with the report, which was released on Sept. 8.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Apple Fest Rotary luncheon in Westminster, South Carolina, Graham accused the grand jury of “criminalizing” his actions. He argued that his role as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee led him to seek clarification about the election, rather than attempting to overturn it. He also expressed concerns about the potential precedent set by the Fulton County case for future elections.

“We’re opening up Pandora’s Box here. Fulton County is one of the most liberal jurisdictions in the country,” Graham stated. “I fear this will spread. In the next election, Democrats may find themselves in a similar situation.”
Graham, who ultimately certified the 2020 election for President Joe Biden, defended his actions, including a phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. He claimed that the purpose of the call was to inquire about Georgia’s election process, particularly regarding mail-in ballots.
“So at the end of the day, nothing happened,” Graham emphasized. He added that it is crucial to avoid using the legal system as a political tool.
Despite being implicated alongside former Georgia Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, Graham firmly rejected the notion that his actions were part of a scheme to overturn the election.
“To suggest I’m part of some grand scheme to overturn the election makes no sense given my actions,” he stated. “It speaks to where we’re at more than anything else. Today it’s me; tomorrow it could be someone else. We need to recognize that political differences are real and take a step back.”
During his media remarks, Graham reaffirmed his support for President Trump’s potential 2024 presidential bid. He stated that he will continue to campaign for Trump, despite facing jeers at a Trump campaign rally in Pickens, South Carolina, on July 3.
“I will continue to lend my support to President Trump. I believe he was a good president on national security and securing our border,” Graham declared. “These are the issues that will determine the outcome of the election, not grand juries.”
