Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) kicked off CPAC by saying the government should work for us, not the other way around. Lee made those remarks during the opening speech of the annual conference in Orlando on Friday, claiming the Bill of Rights and our freedoms are under attack.
He cited the government’s closure of schools, churches and workplaces due to COVID-19, saying it impedes on our right to assemble.
“We’re here because we as a group choose liberty. We’re here because we believe, we understand that government works for us and not the other way around.” @SenMikeLee #CPAC2021 #AmericaUnCanceled pic.twitter.com/7mvAN0tzhg

“The founders understood that at the end of the day, some of the most dangerous threats to freedom come from government itself because government is force, and in that respect it’s the opposite of freedom,” Lee stated. “They understood that government is ultimately the authorized collective use of coercive force, force that can be used against us and so for that very reason they sought to constrain it.”
Lee specifically attacked Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), who now faces a recall due in part to his strict closures.
He also highlighted the hypocrisy of the left, bringing up how Newsom had been caught ignoring COVID-19 restrictions at a restaurant while telling others they could not attend church.
