Senator Tim Scott has officially endorsed former President Donald Trump ahead of the New Hampshire Republican primary.
On Friday, former GOP presidential candidate Scott (R-S.C.) publicly endorsed the 45th president while sharing the stage with him at a campaign event in Concord, New Hampshire.
“We need a president who will close our southern border today. We need Donald Trump,” Scott passionately declared. “We need a president who will unite our country. We need Donald Trump. We need a president who will protect your social security and my mama’s social security. We need Donald Trump.”
Trump proudly mentioned that Scott had endorsed him two days prior as he introduced the senator to the platform.
Many viewed this endorsement as a direct challenge to Scott’s fellow South Carolinian, Nikki Haley (R-S.C.), who had nominated him to the Senate in 2012.
Scott and Haley had been close friends and political allies for a long time leading up to the 2024 campaign.
When the opportunity arose to fill Sen. Jim DeMint’s seat, Haley appointed Scott based on his impressive record and likable personality.
However, after Scott dropped out of the primary, several of his financial supporters quickly switched their allegiance to Haley.
When asked about her thoughts on the endorsement, Haley remarked, “It’s interesting that Trump is aligning himself with the Washington insiders he claimed to want to remove. But people will do what they want to do.”
Last year, Scott had announced his own bid to challenge Trump, but he eventually withdrew due to lack of support in the polls, despite receiving significant funding from prominent donors.
