Senate Democrats mark Medicare anniversary by criticizing Republicans.

Senate Democrats Launch New ⁢Ad Campaign Targeting Republicans⁤ on Medicare

As the ‍country⁣ approaches its 58th anniversary of Medicare being signed into law, Senate Democrats are celebrating by airing‌ a new set of campaign ads. These ads specifically target vulnerable‍ Republicans over their‍ stances on the entitlement spending program.

The Democratic⁤ Senatorial Campaign Committee⁤ (DSCC) is launching a new five-figure ‍ad campaign called ⁤”Memories.” This campaign highlights comments and ‌proposed policies from Senate Republicans that aim to rein in some ⁢of Medicare’s provisions or implement new eligibility requirements. The ads ⁤will⁣ be posted on social media⁢ platforms owned⁣ by Meta, in⁣ a similar format ⁢as the “memories” feature users see on Facebook.

Hold GOP Accountable for Gutting Medicare

“In 2024, voters will hold Ted Cruz, Rick Scott, and every GOP Senate candidate accountable ⁣for their party’s agenda that would gut Medicare and spike the cost of their health care and⁢ prescription drugs,” said DSCC ‌spokesman Tommy Garcia in a statement.

The campaign will specifically ‌target voters in Texas and Florida, as well⁤ as key swing states such as Ohio, Montana, Pennsylvania, ⁢Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona. The ad videos will feature lawmakers‌ like Ted Cruz and Rick⁢ Scott, with⁤ captions such as: “Ted ⁣Cruz is ‍a threat to your Medicare.”

The videos also highlight Rick Scott’s 11-point agenda from last year, which proposed sunsetting‌ all federal laws after five years unless Congress votes to extend them. Although Scott did not specifically⁢ mention Medicare or Social Security, Democrats used that language to attack the GOP during the midterm elections. This prompted Scott to later exempt‌ the two programs from his plan.

This ad campaign comes at a crucial time, as Medicare and Social Security‌ are expected to take center stage during the 2024 cycle. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are seeking to seize the narrative on this key issue. Democrats successfully hammered Republicans on⁢ this issue during the midterm elections, helping the party achieve a‌ better-than-expected performance and expand its⁤ majority in the Senate.
