Senate Republicans criticize Biden’s ‘open border policies,’ claim he disregards 85,000 missing children.
Senate Republicans Blast Biden’s “Open Border” Policies
Senate Republicans held a press conference on Thursday to criticize President Joe Biden‘s “open border” policies, arguing that they are enabling sex trafficking and drug smuggling across the border.
85,000 Missing Children: Republicans Demand Answers
During the conference, a group of Senate Republicans expressed their concerns about the border situation, specifically highlighting reports that the Biden administration has been unable to locate the sponsors of approximately 85,000 children who crossed the border illegally and were subsequently released into the United States.
According to Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), out of the 300,000 children placed with sponsors in the U.S., the administration failed to make the required 30-day wellness call in 85,000 cases. This lack of communication raises concerns about the children’s well-being, including their education, healthcare, vulnerability to gang recruitment, sex trafficking, neglect, and abuse. The Republicans argue that the Biden administration is not only unaware of these children’s whereabouts but also indifferent to their plight.
Unaccompanied Minors: Lost and Exploited
As the number of unaccompanied minors crossing from Mexico into the U.S. reaches record levels, the Department of Health and Human Services has lost contact with approximately 85,000 children and has been unable to reach their guardians. An April report from The New York Times revealed that many of these children end up working as underage laborers.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) held Biden accountable for allowing this illicit trafficking, citing testimony about a young boy found abandoned in a field with a phone number written on his shoe.
According to Johnson, “We’re not talking about that enough. We’re not talking about the human depredation as a result of President Biden’s open border policy. His open border policy is facilitating the multi-billion-dollar business model of some of the most evil people on the planet. We’re funneling about $18 billion to these human trafficking, sex traffickers, and drug traffickers.”
Border Encounters: The Hidden Numbers
In June alone, there were 211,575 encounters at the border, averaging over 7,000 people crossing into the U.S. each day. However, some analysts argue that this number is underestimated, claiming that many others have entered using alternative methods or have been directed to different points of entry, resulting in different classification.
Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration, stated, “Those who enter through these back channels created by the administration are still illegal aliens and still burden communities and taxpayers struggling to cope with the impact of Biden’s policies. The June encounter numbers are not a cause for celebration but rather another example of the administration’s determination to maintain an open-borders policy while pretending to control it.”
