Senator Mark Kelly Does Not Get Behind Senator Kyrsten Sinema When Asked About Re-Election
Senator Mark Kelly, a Democrat from Arizona, refused to endorse Senator Kyrsten Sinema, an independent from Arizona, when asked about her departure from the Democratic Party late last year during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper. Tapper brought up Senator Joe Manchin’s comments about supporting Sinema, to which Kelly responded that he wouldn’t go ahead of her and that she hadn’t made an announcement yet. Kelly added that he had enjoyed working with her closely over the past two years and that she was highly effective in the United States Senate.
The interview was conducted over the weekend, and Kelly’s comments came following Sinema’s departure from the Democratic Party and the negative response she received from many of her fellow Democrats.
Although Senator Manchin believes that Senator Sinema should be supported due to her “independent spirit,” Senator Kelly has declined to endorse anyone for the 2024 election, stating that he is looking forward to working alongside Senator Sinema in the coming months.
Here’s a clip from the interview:
