Senator Tim Scott: ‘The Left Is Trying To Sell A Drug Of Victimhood And A Narcotic Of Despair’

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) laid out the message that he wants to convey to Americans — ahead of a potential 2024 presidential bid — that the vision that the left is selling to Americans is one of grievances.

Scott made the comments during a Sunday interview to Fox News host Shannon Bream. “Fox News Sunday.”

“In today’s society, the progressive left is trying to make America into grievance culture when in fact we’ve always stood on the foundation of greatness,” He stated. “Our original sin should never define us because the story of redemption is what we’ve been living through more than 50-plus years. The greatest story of progress in the world is American progress in the last 50 years. I wish we’d spend more time talking about the goodness of this nation and stop the cancel culture.”

“We have to be able to contrast between why we are a great country and why the left wants us to talk about the grievance,” Later, he added. “The fact is that the left is trying to sell a drug of victimhood and a narcotic of despair.”

SHANNON BREAAM, FOX NEWS ARCHITECT: South Carolina Senator Tim Scott joins us to discuss his possible White House run.

Senator, we are glad to have you back “FOX News Sunday”.

SEN. TIM SCOTT (R-SC): Good morning, Shannon. I hope you’re doing well.

BREAM: Yes, I am. I hope you are too. You must be jetlagged from your time spent in Iowa, which has gotten you a lot notice. You have been testing a message in Iowa.

Do you see a way for you in 2024’s GOP primary?

SCOTT Can we ensure that the American Dream is open to single moms who work 16 hours per day, like my mother, by looking at these moms?

I had a wonderful day with Governor Reynolds, who recently passed a landmark school choice reform. This powerful tool will ensure that kids and parents have choices.

My focus remains on the mission to ensure that every American believes the American Dream is possible.

BREAM: You talk with an optimistic message and we discussed how you highlight faith, not just in the religious sense but also that Americans should have faith in one another.

I want to put up our recent FOX News poll —

SCOTT: Yes.

BREAM: — about how Americans feel about things today. They claim that they are dysfunctional families, 81% of them.

Is it realistic for you to think that any politician can get us out our corners and get people to a place without so much division?

SCOTT: Shannon, it’s clear that that poll is a reflection of our American values. It’s why I believe that we should have an honest, sincere conversation about America’s goodness. Today’s progressive left is trying make America a culture of grievance, when in truth America has always been built on the foundations for greatness.

We should not be defined by our original sin. The story of redemption is the story we have lived through for over 50 years. American progress over the past 50 years is the greatest story of world progress. We should spend more time talking about America’s goodness and ending the cancel culture.

BREAM: Okay. Let’s talk positive messages about cancel culture. It will it work?

“The New York Times” This is about your assets being optimistic, and perhaps history-making as the candidate. These assets could be a liability in today’s Republican primary environment. Voters are against unfair favoritism and activists might be more interested in anger that optimism.

Everyone says that they don’t like negative ads. They dislike political sniping. The numbers show that they actually worked.

This optimistic message may work, but will it be effective?

SCOTT: It’s worked every time. It’s based on the notion of hope.

Think about it this way — a world without America is a very dark place. America without faith is without hope. We must continue to build on the foundation we have built over the past 250 years.

However, it is important to understand the difference between why we are great and what the left wants. The left wants to market a drug of victimhood, a narcotic that is depressing.

Truth is, we do.
