Senator Calls for Iran’s Exclusion from 2024 Olympics

Call to Action: Ban Iran from Paris 2024 Olympics
In an audacious move, a Republican senator is appealing to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude Iran from the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. This call to action follows alarming reports of the regime’s alleged persecution and mistreatment of its female athletes.
“The Iranian Regime’s glorification through the international platform of the Olympics must cease until they align with Olympic values—freedom of expression and safety for all athletes,” insisted Sen. Marsha Blackburn in a bold correspondence with the IOC, spotlighted by the Washington Free Beacon. She demands accountability for Iran’s repression, seeking updates on their status for the 2024 Games.
Blackburn’s dispatch coincides with the defection of an Iranian sportswoman, highlighting the dangers faced by athletes critical of Iran’s authoritarian governance. The Senator outlines troubling accounts of athletes facing harm, incarceration, or even death for their participation in pro-democracy demonstrations.
The Plight of Female Athletes in Iran
Senator Blackburn points out the ironic cruelty where Iranian women, once champions, suffer gross violations under their regime, nullifying the very essence of Olympic principles. Joining forces with exiled Iranian sports figures, she campaigns for Iran’s exclusion from the 2024 Olympics due to their overt gender-based discrimination and abuse.
Highlighting the disparity, Blackburn calls attention to Iran’s treatment of its female athletes. She notes, “Kimia Alizadeh, Iran’s sole female Olympic medalist, exemplifies the immense potential stifled by systemic oppression—a condition so dire it led to her defection.” The senator decries practices such as mandatory hijab requirements and bans on women in key Olympic sports.
Other harrowing tales include that of Marjan Jangjou, a rock climber now missing, and Navid Afkari, a wrestler executed despite global condemnation. The tragic execution of karate champion Mohammad Karami, and the maiming of archery silver medalist Kowsar Khoshnoudi-Kia are but a few examples of the regime’s cruelty.
“These are merely the surfacing stories from a long list of athletes victimized by the regime,” highlights Blackburn. “Iran is ruled by a deplorable system that particularly targets its female citizenry, embedding violence in their everyday lives.”
As Paris prepares to host the world’s finest athletes, Blackburn calls upon the IOC to issue a firm stance: “Intolerable are the abuses against sportsmen and women and the desecration of Olympic charters.” With global attention soon to focus on the City of Lights, Iran faces a moment of international reckoning.
