A neighborhood south of Atlanta was thrown into chaos on Sunday as police launched a manhunt for Andre Longmore, a man suspected of gunning down three men and a woman before fleeing the scene. The incident took place in the Dogwood Lakes subdivision in Hampton, just outside of Atlanta.
Authorities have identified Longmore, 40, as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday morning. He is currently wanted on four counts of murder. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
Hampton Police Capt. Chaundra Brownlee issued a statement urging the public to come forward with any information regarding Longmore’s whereabouts. She emphasized that he is considered armed and dangerous.
A Witness Account: A Marine Corps Veteran’s Perspective
Frankie Worth, a neighbor who witnessed the incident, described the harrowing scene. He recounted hearing a gunshot as he was about to open his blinds on Saturday morning. Worth, a Marine Corps veteran, instinctively took cover and then peered out his window to assess the situation.
According to Worth, he saw a man named Andre standing in the middle of the street, firing a silver handgun at a small white car. The car was being driven by another neighbor, an older white gentleman. The shooting took place on the edge of a cul-de-sac where they all reside.
Worth noted that the shooter appeared calm and deliberate, evaluating whether to fire again. Afterward, he walked casually towards the subdivision’s entrance before picking up his pace. Worth immediately called the police as he watched the suspect disappear behind some trees.
Hampton Police Chief James Turner revealed that detectives were investigating multiple crime scenes within the Dogwood Lakes subdivision. As a result, access to the area has been restricted, with police presence remaining at the scene.
Public records indicate that Longmore was a resident of the neighborhood. The subdivision consists of approximately 40 houses surrounding a lake, located about 25 miles south of downtown Atlanta.
After the shooting, Longmore fled in a black GMC Acadia SUV, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Ron Foster, a resident living outside the subdivision, discovered that Longmore had driven through his yard and his neighbor’s yard, damaging ornamental windmills in the process.
Community on Edge
Residents, like Ron Foster, expressed their shock and concern over the incident. Foster, who received a warning call from a retired police officer, questioned the motives behind Longmore’s actions. He wondered, “What was going through that man’s mind after he did all he done? It was unreal.”
Foster also recalled a previous encounter with Longmore, where the suspect approached him and attempted to argue. This incident left Foster and others in the community on high alert.
The neighboring First Baptist Church of Hampton has implemented additional security measures, including approaching unfamiliar cars in the parking lot and keeping doors locked during Sunday services.
As the search for Longmore continues, Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and prosecution. Sheriff Scandrett issued a direct warning to Longmore, vowing to track him down and bring him to justice.
Hampton, known for the Atlanta Motor Speedway and its involvement in the movie production industry, is now grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
