Sherrod Brown urges Biden to halt reelection campaign – Washington Examiner
Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, a vulnerable Democrat facing a tough reelection campaign, has asked President Joe Biden to suspend his bid for reelection. Brown is the fourth Senate Democrat to make this request, citing concerns raised by Ohio constituents on various important issues. In a letter to President Biden, Senator Brown expressed his belief that stepping aside could help the Democratic Party maintain control of the Senate and advance its legislative agenda. He also pointed to the challenges he faces in his own reelection campaign and the need for a fresh face to represent Ohio in the Senate.
Brown’s decision to ask Biden to suspend his reelection bid has garnered mixed reactions from both Democrats and Republicans. Some see it as a bold move that puts the party’s interests above personal ambition, while others view it as a sign of weakness and a lack of confidence in his own candidacy.
It remains to be seen whether President Biden will heed Senator Brown’s request and suspend his reelection bid. In the meantime, Brown continues to campaign for reelection in Ohio, hoping to overcome the challenges he faces and secure another term in the Senate.
Vulnerable Democrat Sherrod Brown asks Biden to suspend reelection bid
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who faces a competitive reelection campaign, became the fourth Senate Democrat to call on President Joe Biden to drop out of the race.
“Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard from Ohioans on important issues, such as how to continue to grow jobs in our state, give law enforcement the resources to crack down on fentanyl, protect Social Security and Medicare from cuts, and prevent the ongoing efforts to impose a national abortion ban,” Brown said in a statement to NBC News. “These are the issues Ohioans care about, and it is my job to keep fighting for them.”
“I agree with the many Ohioans who have reached out to me,” Brown added. “At this critical time, our full attention must return to these important issues. I think the President should end his campaign.”
Brown brings the total number of congressional Democrats calling on Biden to suspend his campaign to 35, with 12 others asking him to step aside Friday.
The Ohioan Democrat faces a difficult contest this November against Republican challenger Bernie Moreno.
