Sheryl Adams launches bid for Congress, aiming to challenge Rep. Mike Levin.
Businesswoman Sheryl Adams Announces Bid for Republican Nomination in California’s 49th Congressional District
Del Mar, California – Sheryl Adams, a seasoned businesswoman with an impressive career at Fortune 500 companies such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Hyundai, is stepping into the political arena. On Tuesday, Adams officially declared her candidacy for the Republican nomination in California’s 49th Congressional District, aiming to challenge incumbent Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA).
“I am excited to announce my campaign for California’s 49th Congressional District because it’s California who needs a proven businesswoman to offer real solutions to get our country back on track,” Adams stated. “As I look at Washington, the same career politicians from both parties have enacted policies that have resulted in record inflation, higher energy costs, and healthcare costs that continue to soar.”
The Cook Political Report rates California’s 49th District as D+3, indicating a competitive landscape. In the previous election, Levin secured victory by a margin of just over 15,000 votes.
Adams has garnered the endorsement of Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who previously represented the 49th District from 2003-2019 and now represents the state’s 48th District.
“Washington needs more leaders who embody business acumen and entrepreneurialism, those who have experienced the real challenges and triumphs of the private sector, and that is why I am proud to endorse California businesswoman Sheryl Adams for our 49th Congressional District,” Issa expressed. “As the former representative for CA-49, I understand the importance of having a strong leader who is dedicated to serving the people. Sheryl Adams possesses these qualities: integrity, passion, and commitment to put the peoples’ voice first.”
Adams plans to connect with voters by embarking on a district-wide tour over the next few weeks, actively listening to their concerns and aspirations.
Currently, another Republican candidate, Matt Gunderson, a California businessman, has filed with the Federal Election Commission for the same seat. As of April 1, Rep. Levin has $511,928 on hand, according to FEC records.
