Strapped for Cash? Consider a Career in DEI

Let’s face it, President Joe Biden‘s America has us all strapped for cash and thinking of ways to earn a little extra cheddar. Writers — historically one pay grade above the local parish priest — aren’t immune to the current economic malaise. How can one alleviate that economic stress? Well, ironically, it seems that the cultural Marxist push for diversity, equity, and inclusion at every business, organization, and knitting club in America can help provide a little extra spending money for this author — and you, if you really want to go down that path.

Why DEI?

Some Americans have turned to digital currency in hopes of making money. You probably have a friend from high school who constantly posts his or her involvement in a Ponzi multi-level marketing scheme and how excited he or she is to “make money from home as my own boss!” Both those options seem hit or miss — and by that, I mean that it seems like a scam with very little return.

Yet, maybe there is a scam of all scams and one that pays thousands by the hour that can help us all out: Becoming a diversity, equity, and inclusion manager.

DEI, as we all know, has taken the nation by storm. Looking at the salary ranges over at SimplyHired.com, you can earn anywhere in the high $70k range to $135,000.

  • High earning potential
  • Job security
  • Free or cheap lunches provided each day

Now, working in an office doing this job would be the worst. You could only fake it till you make it before the fluorescent lighting and awkward small talk that accompanies most cube farms makes you want to find a new job — like selling those fast weight-loss drinks that one aforementioned high school friend has been posting about. (Author’s note: The Daily Wire isn’t like that. It’s a great place to work)

The real crème de la crème would be getting a DEI gig on a college campus as a chief diversity officer. It would provide a walkable community, free or cheap lunches provided each day, and near-guaranteed job security. Well, it would be a secure position so long as you don’t let a bunch of nutcases from the law school shout down a federal judge — then you might land yourself in hot water like that one Stanford diversity dean.

Yet consider that in 2018, a study showed that “The trend for hiring executive-level diversity officers began in the early 2000s. By 2016, approximately 65 percent of higher education institutions established a form of this executive position.”

But Does It Work?

At the time, the average CDO pay was more than $175,000, according to one report. But the 2018 study found that CDOs, despite their enormous salary, didn’t actually increase diversity. Do you know why? In short, because the CDO had no real power over diversity hiring practices.

This means that CDOs can simply blame everybody around them for failing at their job.

That brings us to the real heart of this DEI push. It’s very simple: All you need to do, to be successful at your job, is blame the white man for any problem in life and at your place of work.

If you’re white, as this author is, you can justify holding the job by saying people of color shouldn’t have to educate fellow white people. Those aren’t my words, that’s what numerous leftist activists argue. (See this column from The Washington Post as an example: I’m your black friend, but I won’t educate you about racism. That’s on you.)

Alternative Options

But let’s say you don’t want to deal with the hassle of doing a job interview to get that college-campus gig. Boy have we got something even better for you.

A few years ago, a group of women started a concept known as “Race to Dinner.”

As described by The Guardian, “A white woman volunteers to host a dinner in her home for seven other white women – often strangers, perhaps acquaintances. (Each dinner costs $2,500, which can be covered by a generous host or divided among guests.)”

What happens next? Well, at Race to Dinner, the co-founders lead a conversation to “challenge liberal white women to accept their racism, however subconscious.”

One of the founders, Saira Rao, explained that the dinner table is just too comfortable for white women.

“If you did this in a conference room, they’d leave,” Rao said. “But wealthy white women have been taught never to leave the dinner table.”

Rao is a bit of an expert on combatting so-called whiteness and dismantling American society that perpetuates systemic racism — in her mind. For example, she has said the American flag makes her sick and has questioned why she isn’t supposed to hate white people.

So if she can do it, and charge $2,500 to go eat a free meal and tell white people how bad they are, then anybody can do it.

Unfortunately, you’d have to give up your moral conscience, common sense, and any ethical standard you have to get in on this racket. That wouldn’t be good for your soul — and there is a far greater treasure waiting for you in Heaven, anyway.

Personally, writing for The Daily Wire is a real dream job. Nothing is better than advocating conservative principles while working for a better future each day, but, man, that DEI hustle sure is tempting.
