Six things Trump’s attorney was ordered to testify on
Former President Donald Trump’s former head lawyer has been ordered by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to testify regarding the special counsel’s investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents on several topics.
Despite an appeal, the three-judge panel upheld the motion to have Evan Corcoran “comply with the district court’s March 17, 2023, order to produce documents.”
The special counsel for the investigation, Jack Smith’s team, has allegedly made a “prima facie showing that the former president had committed criminal violations.” As a result, attorney-client privilege is being disregarded, according to U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell’s ruling.
Corcoran has to testify on six topics, all of which he previously claimed attorney-client privilege. Here are the topics:
- Trump’s response to a May 11 subpoena
- Zeroing in on the subpoena response
- Details of Corcoran’s search
- Mar-a-Lago’s storage room
- Who was involved in choosing Bobb as custodian of the documents?
- June 24 phone call
Special counsel investigators are seeking details on whether Trump or anyone under him knew of the signed certification, drafted by Corcoran and signed by Trump attorney Christina Bobb, sent to the Department of Justice in response to a May 11 subpoena requesting all remaining classified documents in Trump’s possession. The response was found to be false, and it triggered the FBI raid at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August. Investigators are also examining why Corcoran believed that all the documents were located in the estate’s storage room and want to know who selected Bobb as the designated custodian of the documents that Trump took with him after the end of his presidency. They also want to know about any communications Trump had with Bobb regarding her selection as custodian. Furthermore, they want to inquire about Corcoran’s steps to ensure that there were no more classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and what he discussed with Trump during a June 24 phone call. Prosecutors alleged that the conversation advanced Trump’s ongoing strategy.
Trump’s team denies the basis of the special counsel’s case against him and accuses the justice system of weaponizing against him. He argues that “there is no factual or legal basis or substance to any case against President Trump.”
