Sixth Memphis PD Officer Involved in Tyre Nichols Death Relieved of Duty
The Memphis Police Department has released a sixth officer from duty who was involved with the investigation. Tyre Nichols’ death This month.
In a statement to Fox News Digital on Monday, an MPD spokesperson confirmed that Officer Preston Hemphill was relieved of duty by the department. The 26-year old officer joined the force in 2018. He allegedly used his Taser on Nichols before being beaten by five officers.
Preston, a white man, has not been charged in connection with the incident. However, Memphis police have said that he is currently being investigated.
Demetrius Haley and Tadarrius Bean are also black officers. Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., Justin Smith, and Emmitt Martin Jr. are the others. Each of them were terminated Jan. 18, and they are now facing seven charges: second-degree murder, aggravated assault in concert, two counts each of aggravated kidnapping, two counts each of official misconduct and official oppression.

Officials Film footage of Nichols being beaten has been released Friday. The video shows five officers hitting Nichols with batons, punching, kicking and striking him with their batons while he lay prone on January 7. Three days later, he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Cerelyn, the Police Chief, was also fired. “CJ” Davis also disbanded permanently the Scorpion unit in the city Saturday. The five officers were part of the Unit, and they were focused on street crime prevention and punishment.
Nichols’ beating and murder has sparked outrage in the country. The Congressional Black Caucus, (CBC), requested to meet with President Biden directly to discuss police reforms.
“No one in our nation should fear interacting with the police officers who serve our diverse communities, large and small. We all want to be safe,” Biden was contacted by the CBC. “Many Black and brown people, however, and many young people in general, are justifiably afraid to interact with law enforcement officials.”
