Slim chance: Ron DeSantis ‘a shell of his former self’ thanks to rapid weight loss ahead of 2024 run

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) seems to be preparing for a presidential run in 2024, and in more ways than one. The Florida governor has significantly shed weight in a short amount of time, according to a report from Puck News. The report suggests he has cut out carbohydrates and is following a diet.

Photos of DeSantis from his inauguration in January compared to a speaking event in Iowa this month show a noticeable difference in his appearance.

Some speculate that the Florida governor may be using Ozempic, a diabetes drug used by some for weight loss. However, Peter Schorsch, the publisher of Florida Politics, said that DeSantis is not on Ozempic but has cut out carbs.

DeSantis is a leading contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, however he has not yet announced his candidacy. It is expected that he will declare his run for presidency in late May or early June, after the state’s legislative session has concluded.

Former President Donald Trump and DeSantis are front-runners for the GOP nomination in 2024. Trump appears to have taken a lead over DeSantis in recent polls, but both still remain far ahead of the rest of the field.

Florida Congress members have largely refrained from taking sides between Trump and DeSantis, who both call Florida home.
