Social Security update: $914 direct payment arrives in 13 days.

Get Ready for Your Second June Payment from the Social Security Administration

Exciting news for recipients of the Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income program! In less than two weeks, you will be receiving your second June payment, worth up to $914 for individual filers.

The payment is scheduled to go out on Friday, June 30, and it will be the second of two checks for the month of June. The first payment was already sent on June 1st.

Variation in Payment Amounts

Did you know that the amount of money you receive depends on your filing status? If you file individually, you can receive a maximum of $914 every month. Eligible couples can receive up to $1,371, and essential persons, who provide necessary care to individuals receiving SSI payments, get a monthly payment of $458.

Remember, SSI payments are in addition to regular Social Security benefits for retirees. The SSI program provides monthly payments to adults and children with blindness or another disability and limited income.

Qualifying for SSI

To qualify for SSI, you must be over 65, partially blind, or have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits your daily activities for at least 12 months or more, or may result in death.

Understanding the Payment Schedule

Typically, recipients receive one payment each month. However, June is a special month because of a quirk in the Social Security Administration’s schedule. When the first of the following month falls on a weekend, recipients receive two checks. In this case, the second payment for June is replacing July’s payment since July 1 falls on a Saturday this year.

This adjusted schedule ensures that beneficiaries still receive 12 checks per year, even though some months have two payments while others have none. This year, there will be four months with two payments: March, June, September, and December. This is due to the first of the month falling on a weekend in April, July, and October, and Jan. 1 always being a holiday.

SSI payments have been issued since January 1974, and payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the Social Security Administration.
