Social Security update: Direct payment worth $914 arriving in 25 days

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will be receiving their $914 May payment in 25 days as per the Social Security Administration.

The payment, which is scheduled for May 1, will be given to all SSI recipients and is among the twelve payments given to them every year. The payments are sent on the first business day of each month although no payment was made for the month of April.

According to the SSA, for months when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the payments are sent on the last business day of the previous month. Due to this unique feature, recipients received two paychecks in March and none in April.

Certain eligible couples and essential individuals who live with those receiving SSI and providing them with care also qualify for the payment. Couples will receive $1,371, while essential individuals receive $458.

SSI payments were initiated in January 1974, and the amount received has increased through annual cost-of-living adjustments since 1975.

It is important to note that supplemental payments provided to SSI recipients are separate from retirement pay given to retirees each month.
