Social Security update: Direct payment worth $914 arriving in two days

Supplemental Security Income Payments for May 2021

If you’re a Supplemental Security Income beneficiary, get ready to receive your payment for the month of May in just two days! This month’s payment will be worth $914 for individual filers.

Payment Amounts

  • Individual filers: $914
  • Eligible couples: $1,371
  • Essential persons: $458

Essential persons are those who live with someone receiving SSI payments and provide them with necessary care.

If you want to learn more about SSI payments, check out the Social Security Administration’s website.

Payment Schedule

Beneficiaries receive their payments on the first day of each month. However, if the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the SSA issues the payment on the last business day before the month begins.

There are four months in which two payments will be delivered in the same month this year: March, June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend in April, July, and October, and Jan. 1 is always a holiday.

History of SSI Payments

SSI payments were first issued by the SSA in January 1974, and payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.
