Social Security update: $914 direct payment coming in 27 days.
Get Ready for Your September SSI Payment!
Exciting news for those who receive payments through the Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income program! In just under four weeks, on September 1st, you’ll be receiving your first payment for September. And guess what? This month, you’ll actually be getting two payments instead of the usual one!
Why two payments, you ask? Well, it’s all because of a scheduling kink in the administration’s calendar. This year, there are four months when the first of the month falls on a weekend. To make sure you still receive your 12 checks per year, the SSA has adjusted the schedule. So, mark your calendars for September 1st and get ready for that first payment!
Mark Your Calendars for September 29th Too!
But wait, there’s more! On September 29th, you’ll receive a second payment that replaces October’s monthly payment. Why? Because this year, September 30th and October 1st also fall on a weekend. So, you’ll be getting an extra boost at the end of September!
Now, let’s talk about who qualifies for the Supplemental Security Income program. If you’re over 65 and meet specific financial requirements, you’re eligible. But did you know that those under 65 can also qualify? If you’re at least partially blind or have a physical or mental condition that seriously limits your daily activities for at least one year (or is expected to result in death), you may be eligible too. Even children can qualify if their parents have limited income.
So, how much will you be receiving each month? Well, it depends on how you file for the benefits. Eligible couples can receive up to $1,371 each month. If you file independently, you can see as much as $914 every month. And if you’re an essential person who lives with and cares for someone receiving SSI payments, you’ll get a monthly payment of up to $458.
Remember, not every recipient receives the maximum payout, but the amount you receive will still make a difference in your life.
SSI payments have been around since January 1974, and the payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975. So, you can trust that the SSA is committed to supporting you.
