Social Security update: Second of March’s double direct payments worth $914 arrives in two weeks

Supplemental Security Income bIn two weeks, eneficiaries in March will receive the second of their two payments.

On March 1, the first disbursement was sent to eligible recipients. The second payment will be made on March 31. Due to April 1 being on Saturday this year, April 2 will be the replacement payment. Individual filers will receive $914 each, which means recipients will get $1828 in total.

The Social Security Administration usually issues one monthly SSI payment on the first of each month. The agency states that if the first day is a weekend or holiday, the administration will release the checks on the last day of the previous month. This ensures that recipients receive the correct amount of check to pay their bills by the due date.

Others will receive the double payment. Eligible couples will receive two payments of $1,371 in March, and essential people, who live with a person receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, will get two checks of $458 each.

The recipient receives two checks per calendar month, but receives a total 12 payments each year.

The following three months will also receive two payments this year: December, June, and September. Because the first day of each month falls on either a July or October weekend, this is possible. Because Jan. 1 is a national holiday, December receives two checks each year.

The Social Security Administration issued the first SSI payments in January 1974. Since 1975, payment rates have increased to compensate for cost-of living adjustments. Supplemental payments are not part of the monthly retirement pay.
