Typically, the Social Security Administration issues one SSI check per month on the first day of the month, but if the first day falls on a weekend or holiday, the check will be released on the last business day of the previous month to ensure that recipients receive it on time. The recipients still receive a total of 12 payments per year, even if they receive two checks in the same calendar month multiple times a year.

Eligible couples will receive two payments of $1,371 in March, while essential people who live with SSI recipients and provide them with necessary care will receive two checks amounting to $458 each.

Beneficiaries will receive two payments in June, September, and December this year because the first day of these months falls on a weekend in July and October, and Jan. 1 is a national holiday, respectively.

The Social Security Administration first issued SSI payments in January 1974 and increased the payment rates for cost-of-living adjustments each year since 1975.
