Sofia Vergara Questions Fairness of Being an Older Mom; Eva Mendes Disagrees
Two Hollywood celebrities, Sofia Vergara and Eva Mendes, have differing views on the best time to have children. Vergara believes having kids later is unfair, while Mendes disagrees, stating it was “asinine” to suggest she should have had kids in her twenties. Vergara’s recent divorce from Joe Manganiello, driven in part by differing views on children, made headlines. Sofia Vergara and Eva Mendes hold contrasting opinions on the ideal time to have children. Vergara criticizes delayed motherhood as unfair, while Mendes opposes the notion of having kids in one’s twenties. Vergara’s split from Joe Manganiello, partly due to differing views on parenthood, garnered significant attention.
Two Hollywood celebrities just voiced their opposite views on the best time to have children.
Both “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara and “Hitch” actress Eva Mendes discussed their thoughts on motherhood as part of the People Magazine’s “Beautiful” issue. Vergara said having kids later in life wouldn’t be “fair,” while Mendes insisted it was “asinine” to suggest she should have had kids in her twenties.
Vergara, 51, recently made headlines when she divorced her husband of seven years, fellow celebrity Joe Manganiello. The “Modern Family” star revealed that him wanting kids was one of the biggest reasons the marriage fell apart.
The actress had a son when she was 19, and she said that having more kids now wouldn’t work for her.
“There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not,” she told the outlet of having another child over 50. “I was a mother already. I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices, takes a lot of energy.”
“Nowadays, thanks to science, women can actually have babies older,” she added. “Before, nature for some reason tells your body at 50 you are in menopause, it’s time for you to be done with that. There is a reason why nature is doing that.”
Vergara went on to say that while she can “totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50,” that was not what she wanted.
“I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent,” she told People.
Mendes, meanwhile, is reportedly married to actor Ryan Gosling and didn’t have her first child until she was 40.
“When I was 40, it was a big deal for people when I was pregnant, and it wasn’t for me. And then I was 42 and I was pregnant with my second one and people were like, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s.’ I was like, that’s the most sorry, asinine thing I’ve ever heard,” the actress told People.
Mendes went on, saying, “It takes more patience. In my 20s, I shouldn’t have even been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoking. I could not have raised kids in any other era of my life but now, for sure.”
