Soros-backed Kim Gardner says she won’t resign as battle with state heats up
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner Refuses to Resign Amid “Witch Hunt”
Despite facing accusations of failing to do her job, Kim Gardner, the George Soros-backed St. Louis Circuit Attorney, attended a rally on Saturday to confirm that she will not resign. “I ain’t leaving. I ain’t resigning,” Gardner declared during a round table discussion on youth and violence at Central Baptist Church. “You gonna have to remove me.”
Gardner accused the media of trying to silence her and claimed that they were looking for sound bites to use against her. She made the unusual move to speak publicly, but promised to keep it brief.
A “Witch Hunt” Against Gardner?
“What you’re seeing is a witch hunt,” Gardner said. She has faced a series of accusations, including failing to appear at a murder trial earlier this month. Judge Scott Millikan filed a motion declaring Gardner in contempt of court for her failure to appear.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey gave Gardner the opportunity to resign back in February, but when she refused to do so, he filed a quo warranto, the legal action allowing him to remove a prosecutor under state law, on Feb. 23.
What’s Next for Gardner?
Gardner’s quo warranto hearing was held on April 18 to protesters in favor of the circuit attorney. She is up for reelection in 2024.
