Soros Trying to Silence Conservative Hispanic Voices With Radio Takeover
The George Soros-backed takeover of 18 Hispanic radio stations is inevitably going to be a failure and will only censor conservative voices, according to two former hosts who resigned their positions.
Latino Media Network, a Soros-funded news company, bought the Spanish-language radio stations in June from TelevisaUnivision for an estimated $60 million. The Federal Communications Commission approved the deal in November — launching a progressive network of radio stations that has stirred up controversy among Hispanic communities who have remained anti-Communist after witnessing the fatal movement in Fidel Castro’s Cuba.
“This is going to be a failure — I am 100% sure of that,” Lourdes Ubieta, a Venezuelan ex-host for Radio Mambi, Miami’s conservative station that was also bought by Latino Media Network, told the New York Post.

“They did this to silence conservative Hispanic voices, but it’s not going to work,” added Ubieta, who quit her radio job during the summer.
The key backer for the radio deal is Lakestar Finance, an investment firm associated with Soros Fund Management, another firm founded by Soros that used to be a hedge fund. Soros Fund Management manages assets for the Open Society Foundations, a top liberal grant-maker also founded by Soros.
Lakestar Finance is headquartered at Soros Fund Management’s New York City address, according to corporate records reviewed by the Washington Examiner.
The deal between Latino Media Network and TelevisaUnivision affects 10 AM and eight FM stations in major media markets. Some of the stations are based in Las Vegas, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
“The Democrats are master manipulators,” Dania Alexandrino, who also quit Radio Mambi over the summer, told the New York Post.
“They want to silence and censor Hispanic conservative voices,” she said. “They have a way of telling Democrats are the party of minorities and the party of the poor. They treat Hispanics like victims. I wouldn’t take a penny from them. My dignity is not for sale.”
Democrats and liberal activists have sought to shift the political discourse on Spanish-language radio stations in recent years.
“There is a massive Spanish-language disinformation campaign happening on social media networks targeting our election,” tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in October 2020, citing an NBC News story titled “Spanish-language disinformation intensifies among Florida Latinos, worrying Democrats.”
After the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the public relations firm Prospero Latino and Florida Rising, a progressive group, issued a report raising concerns over Radio Mambi and other Hispanic stations peddling purported “disinformation.”
“The radio shows and hosts played a significant role in the spread of disinformation about election fraud and frequently questioned the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s victory,” said the report. “As news of the attack on the Capitol broke and the coverage evolved in the following days, the hosts shifted to say that all they wanted was an investigation, but the claims of electoral fraud never ceased during the period analyzed.”

Latino Media Network is headed by Jess Morales Rocketto, a longtime Democratic activist who worked for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and helped to elect Barack Obama as president in 2012. The network’s other leader is Stephanie Valencia.
Valencia worked in the Obama White House and was co-director of nominations and confirmations between August 2020 and January 2021 for the Biden-Harris transition team. She sits on boards for the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a liberal dark money group, and also Community Change, a progressive organization that has received over $1.5 million from Soros’s Open Society Foundations.
