‘Sound of Freedom’ Urges Action Against Child Sex Trafficking
“Sound of Freedom” Sparks a Movement to Confront Child Sex Trafficking
Get ready for an incredible cinematic experience this July 4th with the release of “Sound of Freedom.” This powerful film tells the real-life story of Tim Ballard, a true hero dedicated to rescuing children from the horrors of sex trafficking.
Leading the charge is Tim Ballard, the founder of Operation Underground Railroad. With over a decade of experience as a special agent assigned to the Homeland Security Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Ballard has worked tirelessly to infiltrate child sex trafficking rings both in the U.S. and overseas.
Portraying Ballard in “Sound of Freedom” is the talented Jim Caviezel, known for his role as Jesus in “The Passion of the Christ.” Caviezel was immediately drawn to the film and believes it has the potential to make a profound impact on our culture.
In fact, Caviezel, as Ballard, delivers a powerful message from the book of Luke, chapter 17: “Better a millstone be hung around your neck and you be cast into the sea than you should ever hurt one of these little ones.”
But why does Ballard engage in this dangerous fight? His answer is simple yet profound: “Because God’s children are not for sale.”
A Gripping Mission to Save Lives
“Sound of Freedom” focuses on Ballard’s mission to rescue two specific Honduran children. Miguel, an 8-year-old boy, is being trafficked into the U.S., while his older sister Rocio has fallen into the hands of a ruthless drug lord in Columbia.
And the film’s authenticity is undeniable. Ballard himself confirmed that every bad guy and every child portrayed in the movie is real.
During the filming of “Sound of Freedom” in Columbia, Ballard and his team, comprised of former Navy SEALs, even left the set to conduct a raid that resulted in the rescue of over 200 children. This is the kind of dedication and bravery that defines Operation Underground Railroad.
While the organization has already rescued over 7,000 women and children in its 10 years of existence, Ballard acknowledges that there is still a long way to go. Millions of innocent lives are currently trapped in bondage around the world.
A Call to Action
Ballard’s hope is that “Sound of Freedom” will ignite a movement for change, much like the impact of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” in ending slavery. He believes this film can be the modern-day equivalent, shining a light on the horrors of modern-day slavery and waking up the world.
Human trafficking is a $152 billion-a-year business globally, with the U.S. being the top market for child trafficking. Ballard argues that current border policies, which pay for the transportation of unaccompanied minors apprehended at the border, are facilitating and even funding child trafficking within the country.
With its PG-13 rating, “Sound of Freedom” tackles this disturbing subject matter without graphic sexual content. It is a gripping and well-told story that will leave viewers both informed and inspired to take action.
