Southwest Debacle Goes So Bad Buttigieg Observes and Promises His Job
Many areas of the country were hit by severe winter storms over the Christmas weekend. It’s understandable that flights would be cancelled as safety precautions, but one airline is different and it stands out. The airline’s handling cancellations and the resulting customer service complaints is “SouthwestSince a while, “has been trending on Twitter consistently.”
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), was so concerned about the situation that they actually took note and sent several tweets starting Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday night, a tweet stated that the department was “concerned” They referred the cancellation rate as “unacceptable,” This sentiment is no doubt shared by others with much less authority. In the tweet, it was also stated that the department would “examine whether cancellations were controllable and if Southwest is complying with its customer service plan,” In that thread, a link was tweeted to the customer service plan.
On Tuesday, the department shared another thread via Twitter, informing that Secretary Pete Buttigieg (who heads the department) spoke with the CEO of the airline and union leaders. “to convey the Department’s expectation that Southwest meet its obligations to passengers and workers and take steps to prevent a situation like this from happening again.”
Tweeted out was also a link to Aviation Consumer Protection.
