Speaker Johnson raises record-breaking haul in final quarter before 2024 election

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reported a record-breaking fundraising haul for the third quarter of the year, giving a boost to House Republicans as they look to hold on to their slim majority next year.

Johnson raised $27.5 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, including more than $19.4 million for his committees and another $8.1 million for individual members and candidates. That’s the most money a Republican speaker has ever raised in the third quarter of a presidential election year, according to the speaker’s office.

“In less than one year as Speaker, I’m thankful that we have been able to build a team and set new fundraising records that will ensure House Republicans can keep and grow our majority,” Johnson said in a statement. “Now with less than one month until the most important election of our lifetimes, another strong quarter shows voters are motivated down the stretch and ready to elect Republicans up and down the ballot to fix our economy, secure the border, and restore peace through strength.”

The record-high sum comes after Johnson has traversed the campaign trail over the last few months, visiting more than 210 cities across 40 states to campaign for GOP incumbents and candidates. The speaker will travel to 24 states in October alone.

Johnson’s war chest builds on another record-breaking haul for the Congressional Leadership Fund, which raised $81.4 million in the third quarter.

Still, House Republicans have a ways to go before they can declare victory. Democrats also had a healthy third quarter, with their outside fundraising group, the House Majority PAC, surpassing the CLF’s numbers over the last three months.

Democrats’ HMP announced a haul of roughly $99 million in the third quarter, $69 million of which was raised in September alone. That means both super PACs raised about $210 million this cycle, putting parties on somewhat equal footing as they head into the final weeks of the election.
