McCarthy defends Trump on Jan. 6: ‘No criminal activity?’
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made a bold statement on Wednesday, defending former President Donald Trump against criminal responsibility for the Capitol breach on Jan. 6, 2021.
“I don’t see how he could be found criminally responsible,” Mr. McCarthy said. “What criminal activity did he do? He told people to be peaceful.”
Mr. Trump recently revealed on social media that he received a letter from special counsel Jack Smith, stating he was a target of the investigation into the events of Jan. 6. With hundreds already indicted in the ongoing case, the situation is escalating.
Election Interference
Mr. McCarthy continued to defend Mr. Trump, expressing his concerns about the Biden administration’s actions.
“If you’ve noticed recently, President Trump went up in the polls, so what do they do now? Weaponize government, to go after their number one opponent. It’s time and time again—I think the American public is tired of this, they want to see equal justice, and the idea that they use this to go after those who politically disagree with them is wrong.”
Mr. Trump himself called it “election interference” by the Biden administration, claiming that the charges were strategically timed to interfere with the 2024 presidential election.
Conservative radio personality Mark Levin also criticized the prosecutors, accusing them of interfering in the election.
He took to Twitter to express his concerns about the prosecutors’ actions, emphasizing the potential political motives behind the charges.
“The seriousness of what is being done to Donald Trump by local and federal Democrat prosecutors cannot be overstated. it is alarming. It is shocking. And this republic is teetering,” he wrote. “It is extremely difficult to fight all these prosecutors, and fight for your freedom, and run for president at the same time. And these prosecutors know it.”
Fighting for You
Despite facing multiple legal challenges, Mr. Trump’s approval ratings have risen, and he continues to lead the GOP nominee hopefuls by double digits.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Mr. Trump vowed to “fight any and all politically charged indictments,” emphasizing that he is not only fighting for himself but for the American people.
Supporters believe that Mr. Trump’s commitment to reforming America’s justice system is resonating with the public.
“If elected, he is also planning to completely reform America’s two-tiered system of justice and weaponized justice system,” said Mr. Hannity.
However, not all GOP candidates share the same level of support for Mr. Trump.
“It’s gonna keep on going,” Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Hayley told Fox News, expressing a different perspective.
" Conservative News Daily does not always share or support the views and opinions expressed here; they are just those of the writer."
