Special Prosecutor facilitated DA Fani Willis’ travel on multiple trips: Court document
Special prosecutor Nathan Wade paid for Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis to accompany him on at least two trips in 2022 and 2023 after Willis had already hired him to oversee her RICO case against former President Donald Trump, court filings show.
Wade’s estranged wife, Joycelyn, submitted a court filing on Friday in the couple’s ongoing divorce case which included credit card statements. The statements showed that Wade had purchased plane tickets for himself and Willis to travel to San Francisco and Miami over the past year and a half, according to the filing, NBC News reported.
The court filing comes after Michael Roman, a co-defendant in the Trump case, alleged that Willis and Wade “engaged in an improper, clandestine personal relationship during the pendency of this case, which has resulted in the special prosecutor, and, in turn, the district attorney, profiting significantly from this prosecution at the expense of the taxpayers.”
Willis was subpoenaed last week in the Wades’ divorce case, requesting her to testify. In a court filing on Thursday, the district attorney accused Joycelyn Wade of trying to “harass” her and “damage her professional reputation,” alleging that Joycelyn Wade is “obstructing and interfering with an ongoing criminal prosecution.”
Joycelyn Wade’s attorneys responded to Willis’ filing on Friday, writing, “Contrary to Ms. Willis’s belief, the Defendant is not utilizing the deposition to harass her but rather to seek pertinent information from her husband’s paramour regarding her relationship with Plaintiff and the extent of the Plaintiff’s financial involvement in the same.”
Trump responded to news of the court filings, saying Willis and Wade “have been exposed.”
“The Hoax has to be Totally and Completely DISMISSED,” Trump posted to Truth Social on Friday, referring to the Georgia RICO case against him. “And the Lovebirds should face appropriate consequences. I, and many other Good Citizens of our Nation, are owed damages for the Dishonest Turmoil and Fraud we have been forced to endure.”
Earlier this week, Willis told the congregation at Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, that she’s being targeted because of her race.

They only attacked one,” Willis told the congregation on Sunday, during a speech that lasted some 30 minutes. “First thing they say, ‘Oh, she’s gonna play the race card now.’ But no God, isn’t it them that’s playing the race card when they only question one.”
“Isn’t it them playing the race card when they constantly think I need someone from some other jurisdiction in some other state to tell me how to do a job I’ve been doing almost 30 years,” she continued, referring to the two prosecutors assigned to the case concerning her alleged misconduct, Fox News reported.
Wade has reportedly received more than $650,000 since January of 2022 from the Willis’ office. The DA is also accused of misleading county officials in seeking extra funds to pay Wade, and in what could be a state violation, allegedly never sought the county’s approval to hire him, as is required by Georgia law.
On Thursday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ordered a hearing on allegations against Willis and Wade. McAfee said Willis must respond in writing to the allegations by February 2, and he scheduled a hearing on the accusations on February 15, according to the Washington Post.

What are the potential conflicts of interest arising from the special prosecutor’s financial involvement with the district attorney?

The revelation that special prosecutor Nathan Wade paid for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to accompany him on multiple trips is causing further controversy in an already high-profile case. Court filings submitted by Wade’s estranged wife, Joycelyn, in their ongoing divorce case, include credit card statements showing Wade’s purchase of plane tickets for himself and Willis to travel to San Francisco and Miami in the past year and a half.
This information has emerged following allegations made by Michael Roman, a co-defendant in the RICO case against former President Donald Trump. Roman contends that Willis and Wade had engaged in an improper, clandestine personal relationship during the course of the case. He further claims that their relationship has resulted in the special prosecutor, and subsequently the district attorney, benefiting financially from the prosecution at the expense of taxpayers. These allegations have raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and have cast doubt on the integrity of the legal process.
In response to the allegations, Willis was subpoenaed to testify in the divorce case of Wade and his estranged wife. However, Willis accused Joycelyn Wade of attempting to harass her and damage her professional reputation. She argued that the subpoena was an obstruction and interference with the ongoing criminal prosecution. These counter-accusations have added another layer of complexity to the situation, intensifying the already contentious atmosphere surrounding the Trump case.
In the midst of these developments, former President Trump reacted to the court filings, asserting that Willis and Wade have been “exposed.” He called for the dismissal of what he referred to as a “hoax” and demanded appropriate consequences for the prosecutor and district attorney. Trump claimed that he and other citizens had suffered from the “dishonest turmoil and fraud” they were forced to endure. These statements further fuel the political undertones of the case and the polarization it has caused.
Earlier this week, Willis addressed the congregation of Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, sharing her belief that she is being targeted because of her race. This statement adds another contentious dimension to the case, as it raises questions of racial bias and discrimination. It further fuels the ongoing controversy and ensures that the case will continue to be closely watched by the public.
The revelations of the special prosecutor’s financial involvement with the district attorney, as well as the allegations of an improper relationship, have cast a shadow over the Trump case in Fulton County. They have raised doubts about the objectivity and fairness of the legal process, particularly when it comes to high-profile cases involving powerful individuals. These developments highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the justice system to maintain public trust and confidence.
