Staffer for Sen. Rand Paul ‘Brutally’ Stabbed

According to a statement from Sen. Rand Paul’s ( R-Ky. ) office, an employee of that office was attacked in Washington, D.C.

Paul claimed that a person of his personnel” was viciously attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C.” over the weekend in an interview with media.

He continued,” I beg you to join Kelley and me in praying for a quick and full recovery and expressing our gratitude to the hospital staff, police, and first responders.”

” We are happy to learn that the defendant has been taken into custody. We did request privacy at this time so that everyone could concentrate on healing and recovery.

The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia( MPD) announced on Monday that the incident occurred on March 25 and that police were called to the 1300 block of H Street in Northeast at 5:17 p.m. in response to a reported punching.

For” treatment of life-threatening injuries ,” the victim was taken to a hospital.

As of late Monday, there had been no new information regarding the staffer’s situation.

According to The Independent, citing MPD’s paper, the victim was identified as Phillip Todd, who serves on the Senate Homeland Security Committee. The most prominent Republican on the commission is Paul.

The intruder” popped out” from the place to attack Todd, who was walking down the street with another person at the time, according to the MPD state. Todd was stabbed by the assailant, who then fled.

On the same day of the incident, 42-year-old believe Glynn Neal was taken into custody. According to the MPD proclamation, he was accused of assault with the intent to kill.

According to a release( pdf ) from the Department of Justice, Neal had been given more than 12 years in prison in 2011 for coercing two women into prostitution.

According to Fox5DC, who cited Federal Bureau of Prisons reports, Neal was released from prison even one day prior to the stabbing.

Weeks had passed since Rep. Angie Craig( D-Minn.) was assaulted in an elevator inside her apartment complex in Washington, D.C., on February 9. The believe, a man who was unemployed, was taken into custody that day.
