Star Parker: What Does It Take to Ensure That Policemen Are Human Beings?
Another horrific video shows police beating a Black man to death. This shocking footage has shocked the nation. Do I need to mention that the victim was Black Are we less traumatized or more if the victim is white?
However, the rule seems to be that Blacks are the victims.
Everyone recognizes that there is a problem. Everyone wants to solve it. But how?
In search of a solution, the first question that comes to mind is: “What is wrong with the system?”
We might ask a different question to start the time. What’s wrong with these men?
This shocking video doesn’t tell the whole story. How did the police capture this man and force him to his death? Is there any other circumstance that could justify such behavior?
All this could have happened without anyone being aware. This man was beaten to death by these police officers, but nobody found out.
Could they just live with themselves? They could just return to their families and do their day without any thought of the fact that their law enforcement work had left a man with no justification.
Pro-life activists ask women how they can kill the child inside their wombs and still live with them. People who rationalize this claim that they don’t consider the unborn child to be life.
Can we also say that the police didn’t consider Tyre Nichols to be a living person?
These incidents are often portrayed as racist. The truth is that racists don’t see people they hate as human. The Dred Scott decision was an example of this historical data point.
In this instance, however, the officers involved in the investigation were Black.
We might ask these policemen if they believed that the world is controlled by a Creator and that all human beings are created in the image of that Creator. Could they have done the same if they had believed that?
Rep. Jim Jordan summarized it well by saying, “I don’t know there is anything you can do to stop the kind of evil we saw in that video.”
We have seen something very wrong in this country.
This nation was established as a country free from God and not as an institution. “system.” The Constitution is an operating guide that outlines the basic structure of government. It was created to ensure that citizens can take personal responsibility for their lives and be free from interference.
Yes, it started with the terrible reality of slavery. This was a reflection of the sins of men and not a flaw in the country.
George Washington once said, and I quote him often, that freedom is not possible without religion.
We are now moving in the other direction. Instead of asking our pastors or parents for eternal guidance, we want to turn to courts and legislatures for the answers to our lives. The system is not the answer; it is us.
The police need to take more responsibility for their actions.
This can be achieved by getting rid of qualified immunity. This shields them against lawsuits. Qualified immunity permits police to infringe on constitutional rights without fear of being sued. Police are exempt from lawsuits if there is no other precedent that has the same facts and it does not apply to this judge-created doctrine.
Unions protect police officers who have a history of misconduct and then qualify them for immunity protection.
This is the most important technical change that can improve police behaviour.
We must also remember that even in a poor system, good people can produce great results.
Even in the most well-designed systems, bad men will still lead to bad results.
