Star Parker: Biden Unfazed by Debt Crisis?
The Perplexing Stance of President Joe Biden on the National Debt
It’s a question that has been on the minds of many Americans: why doesn’t the staggering national debt seem to bother President Joe Biden? In a recent speech, he acknowledged that the debt has been accumulating for over 200 years and increased under the previous administration. However, he conveniently forgets that during his time as Vice President, the national debt skyrocketed from 60% to 100% of GDP.
But let’s not dwell on the past. What’s important is the present and the future. The Congressional Budget Office predicts that the national debt will reach 118% of GDP, a historic high, and could even double over the next 20 years. This is uncharted and dangerous territory, yet the President seems unfazed.
The Growing Burden on Minority Americans
What does this mean for the minority Americans that President Biden claims to care so much about? The growing debt burden will fall disproportionately on younger black and Hispanic Americans, with a legacy of massive debt, bloated government, sclerotic economic growth, and life on an ever-expanding government plantation. This is not the future that anyone wants.
The Need for Fiscal Responsibility
It’s time for the government to get back in line and prioritize fiscal responsibility. The Republican Limit, Save, Grow Act is a step in the right direction. We cannot continue down the path of socialism and a future as a country that once was great. The vision of America’s founders was freedom, and that should be our focus. More government means less freedom, and that’s not what America is about.
The Importance of Personal Freedom
President Biden’s upcoming reelection campaign is centered around the theme of freedom. “Freedom, personal freedom, is fundamental to who we are as Americans,” he says in his video. But his actions speak louder than his words. The focus of our Constitution was to limit government, yet the current direction of the country is towards much more government and much less freedom.
The Need for Spending Cuts
The staggering national debt is a result of politicians not being honest with citizens by raising taxes every time they increase spending. Instead, they spend and borrow. The U.S. Treasury Department reports that federal expenditures accounted for 25% of our GDP in 2022, up from 20% in 2015. President Biden has called the $4.5 trillion in spending cuts proposed by Republicans “draconian,” yet his own budget calls for $82.2 trillion in spending over 10 years. This is anything but draconian.
The Urgency of the Situation
The U.S. Government Accountability Office has just released a report titled “The Nation’s Fiscal Health: Road Map Needed to Address Projected Unsustainable Debt Levels.” It’s clear that the national debt is a crisis that needs urgent attention. Everyone seems to understand this, except for President Biden.
It’s time for the government to take responsibility and prioritize fiscal responsibility. The future of America depends on it.
