Stefanik vows to be ‘a leader’ for Trump’s agenda in House

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) held no hard feelings after her nomination to serve as the Trump administration’s ambassador to the United Nations was pulled, citing a need to deliver results from the president to the voters.

Stefanik argued that President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers need to deliver on the reconciliation package promised to voters, a mandate indicated by the president’s victory in November that included winning the popular vote along with the Electoral College. However, Trump is dealing with a razor-thin majority within the House of Representatives to enact his agenda — a “reality” that Stefanik says the Republican Party must address.

“The political realities are what they are, and it’s very important that we have every single vote in the House, so I’m proud to be stepping up as a team to support the American people to get this done and to continue to support President Trump,” Stefanik explained on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “And I believe that we will deliver results as we always have, so I am honored to be a leader once again in the Republican Party to deliver and put the American people first.”

Stefanik added that she was “proud” to have been considered for the role of U.N. ambassador but pointed to the importance of Republicans working together as a team for Trump. She contended that her decision to work with Republicans in the House rather than at the U.N. has been “universally praised,” and her party now needs to be “moving forward.”

The New York congresswoman continued to explain that Trump is pursuing a “one-bill approach” with his agenda, and that she supported the bid to “unleash” the president’s vision through tax cuts and improving the economy.

STEFANIK SWITCH-UP HIGHLIGHTS GOP’S TURNOUT PROBLEM

Trump explained on Truth Social that “EVERY Republican seat” in Congress is filled to secure his agenda, and that Stefanik has played a pivotal role “from the very beginning.” He also stated he did not want to gamble with a Democrat taking the congresswoman’s seat, and that there are “others” who could fulfill the duties of U.N. ambassador.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has also stated that he is inviting Stefanik to the leadership table “immediately.”
