Stephen A. Smith asks why Harris won’t ‘stand on’ her record: ‘What’s up?’ – Washington Examiner
In a recent discussion, sports journalist Stephen A. Smith has expressed his frustration regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’s lack of visibility during her presidential campaign. He urges her to engage in interviews to address “legitimate questions” from voters. Smith, who intends to vote for Harris over former President Donald Trump, criticized her for only appearing at events like pep rallies. He emphasized that if she wants to win, she needs to be more transparent and willing to discuss her record and policies. Additionally, he questioned the reasons behind her apparent changes in stance on several issues, urging her to clarify her positions, particularly concerning fracking and border security. Smith believes these are essential topics for her to address as a candidate for the presidency.
Stephen A. Smith asks why Harris won’t ‘stand on’ her record: ‘What’s up?’
Sports journalist and podcast host Stephen A. Smith has joined the growing number of people asking Vice President Kamala Harris to do an interview as the Democratic presidential nominee, citing a need to answer “legitimate questions” from voters.
Smith stated on his show that he plans to vote for Harris over former President Donald Trump this November, as there is “a lot” he doesn’t like about the Republican presidential nominee. However, he commended Trump for conducting multiple interviews as a presidential candidate and argued that Harris needed to do the same if she wanted to win the election.
“The only damn place we’ve seen Kamala Harris is at pep rallies,” Smith said on his podcast. “What’s up? Somebody got to say something. And it can’t just be the conservatives; right is right! I’m talking to my sister here, come on now! You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America, you got my vote! You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America. What’re you hiding for?”
Smith then encouraged Harris to “stand on” the record she and President Joe Biden established in the White House, and questioned why she has suddenly changed her views on several policies, such as banning fracking and border security. He also wanted to ask Harris how much she knew about Biden’s cognitive decline, as these are “legitimate questions” for a presidential candidate.
While Harris has yet to do an interview since becoming the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Smith offered to do a one-on-one interview with her, saying he would “gladly” interview her. He also extended this offer to Trump.
“Name the time or place, I’ll come to you,” Smith said.
On Monday night, Trump partook in a one-on-one interview with billionaire and X owner Elon Musk, with Smith referencing this as one of the interviews Trump showed up for. Smith also noted how Trump made an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists’ conference this year, commending the former president for attending even though he “knew that wasn’t going to be a pleasant experience.”
The Washington Examiner has contacted both Trump and Harris’s campaign for comment.
