Former Trump White House strategist and popular podcast host Steve Bannon was released from federal prison on Tuesday morning.
Bannon, the host of “War Room” and chief executive to the 2016 campaign of former President Donald Trump, was serving a four-month prison sentence for contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with a congressional investigation of the Jan. 6 riots.
Bannon tried multiple times to delay his prison term while he appealed the charges against him. However, multiple courts, including the Supreme Court, denied him on several occasions, the Washington Examiner previously reported.
“I am proud to go to prison,” Bannon said earlier this year before his sentence. “And this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny. This way, it takes a stand up to the Garland corrupt criminal DOJ. This is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi. This is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden — to Joe Biden,” Bannon said. “I’m proud to do it.”
In July, Bannon reported to a federal prison in Connecticut to serve his sentence.
His daughter, Maureen Bannon, met him upon his release, CNN reported. Bannon is expected to resume his duties as host of “War Room” beginning today.
