It is with heavy ‍hearts that we announce the passing of former Smash Mouth lead singer, Steve Harwell, at the age ‌of 56. Harwell ⁢passed away at his home in​ Boise, Idaho, ​after battling liver failure and being placed in hospice care.

Harwell⁢ had retired from the band in October 2021 due to his health troubles, which included Wernicke ‍encephalopathy and cardiomyopathy. Despite these ⁤challenges, he remained dedicated to his music and his ‍fans.

“Harwell passed away this morning September 4,‍ 2023 at his home in Boise Idaho. He was surrounded‌ by family​ and friends and passed peacefully and comfortably,” the band’s manager, Robert Hayes, said in a statement.

Hayes described Harwell as ‌a “true American original” and “a larger than life character.” He emphasized Harwell’s unwavering ⁣focus and determination to achieve pop stardom, despite his limited musical experience.

When Harwell ⁤retired from the band, he reflected on his childhood dream of becoming a rock star and performing in sold-out arenas. He considered himself fortunate to have lived out that dream.

Remembering⁤ Smash ⁤Mouth’s Success

Smash Mouth had a string of top Billboard chart​ pop punk hits, including the iconic ⁣songs “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star.” ‌These songs captivated audiences and solidified the band’s‍ place ⁢in music history.

Steve ⁣Harwell’s talent and passion will ⁢be greatly missed, but his legacy as a rock star will live on.
