Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) called on law enforcement to be forthcoming during their investigation into the terrorist attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, on New Year’s Eve.
A driver subverted a police barricade during the holiday celebration and drove his truck through the crowds, then shot several more, killing fifteen people. While the FBI at first claimed the act was not a terrorist attack, when information emerged that the suspect was an alleged ISIS sympathizer, the agency reversed its statement.

“I just hope that the FBI and all the agencies involved are fully candid every step of the way. You did see the FBI this morning saying it was not a terrorist attack, which was premature. So let’s use facts and let’s be candid all the way through this, and get to the bottom of it and apprehend these remaining suspects,” Scalise said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle Wednesday. “I think what people want are candid answers. You don’t need to sugarcoat this. If there is some uncomfortable things we find along the way, let’s get that information out.”
Scalise noted that there will continue to be a heightened police presence in the city as a result of the investigation. The representative expressed his gratitude that the college football Sugar Bowl match between Georgia and Notre Dame was postponed in respect to the attack.
Police killed the suspect by returning gunfire. However, law enforcement suspect he was not alone because there were explosive devices found in the area, and they continue to search for more suspects.
Law enforcement hesitated to release the suspect’s name in the hours following the attack. Since then, they revealed he was Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old born in the U.S.
