Direct payments to be sent out in multiple states as stimulus check update.

Stimulus Payments Update: Which States Are Still Distributing Relief?

While federal stimulus checks aimed at providing relief during the COVID-19 pandemic were discontinued in 2022, several states are still distributing refund and disaster relief payments.

Are you wondering if your state is still providing stimulus payments? Here’s an update on which states you can expect to receive payments from in June 2023:

California

Los Angeles County has announced its guaranteed income program, called Breathe. If you meet several income and age requirements, you could be eligible for monthly payments of $1,000 for two years. To qualify, you must have been in foster care up until age 18 or later and be at least 21 years old but below the age of 24 as of Sept. 1, 2023. Income requirements must be equal to or less than 100% of the median in the area. Applications can be submitted electronically starting June 20 through July 3, and 200 people will be selected.

Massachusetts

If you filed your 2021 returns by Oct. 17, 2022, you are eligible for a refund equal to approximately 14% of your 2021 state income tax liability and should have received these payments by December. However, if you still haven’t filed your tax return, you can do so by Sept. 15, 2023, and be eligible to receive benefits from Chapter 62F, the law that forces Massachusetts to return leftover revenue to taxpayers. If you filed in May, the payment should be issued in June.

New Jersey

Governor Phil Murphy (D-NJ) enacted the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters, or ANCHOR, program in June 2022, a property tax relief initiative. If you applied by Feb. 28, roughly 2 million New Jersey households qualified for property tax rebates of up to $1,500. Residents who have been receiving direct deposits or checks should expect more this month.

Georgia

The Georgia Department of Revenue has been sending out special 2023 surplus tax refunds to eligible residents. If you filed a tax return in 2021 and 2022, you could receive a payment that could take up to eight weeks, according to the department. With nearly $1 billion in surplus tax funds, the government is issuing rebates of $250 for individuals and $500 for couples.

Don’t miss out on these opportunities for relief. Check with your state to see if you qualify for any of these programs.
