What Governor Greg Gianforte Has to Say
“Property taxes are too high, which is why we prioritized and secured immediate property tax relief for Montanans this legislative session,” said Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT). “Now, it’s time to build on reforms to reduce the burden of property taxes over the long term.”
To be eligible for this incredible tax rebate, you must have owned and lived in a residence in Montana for at least seven months. Additionally, you must have paid the property taxes on your residence during the 2022 tax year. Please note that only one rebate per household is allowed through this program.
The amount you receive for your rebate will depend on the total property taxes paid for your “principal Montana residence.” The maximum rebate amount is $675, so make sure to take full advantage of this opportunity.
Once you’ve submitted your application through our online portal or by mail, eligible residents can expect to receive their rebate within 30 days for online applications and up to 90 days for paper applications. And here’s some great news: a similar property tax rebate program will be available next year for eligible residents based on the 2023 tax year.
