Minnesota to distribute direct payments up to $1,300 by September’s end.
Minnesota Direct Tax Rebate Payments
Last month, Minnesota initiated the distribution of direct tax rebate payments, providing eligible taxpayers with up to $1,300. By the end of September, individuals who meet the adjusted gross income requirements will receive their funds.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue commenced issuing this one-time tax rebate during the week of Aug. 16. Approximately 2.1 million Minnesotans have the potential to benefit from these checks, which are part of the state’s multibillion-dollar budget surplus. Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) signed the $2 million rebate into law. The amount individuals receive will be based on their 2021 income tax returns, and the money will be automatically distributed via check or direct deposit.
Assistance for Everyday Expenses
“This rebate will help millions of Minnesotans pay for everyday expenses such as groceries, school supplies, rent, or child care,”
said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart.
“We know it will be very valuable to a lot of people, and we look forward to sending payments out in early fall.”
All Minnesotans who resided in the state in 2021 and filed an income tax return or property tax refund are eligible for this one-time rebate. The adjusted gross income limit is $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for married couples who filed jointly. Single filers will receive $260, while married couples will receive $520. Additionally, there will be an extra $260 per dependent, up to three. Therefore, married couples with the maximum number of dependents could potentially receive up to $1,300.
The tax rebate is being processed separately from the usual tax refund system, making it impossible for taxpayers to track the progress of their rebate. However, officials advise individuals expecting a payment to contact the department’s customer service operations if the rebate is not issued by October.
