In a shocking incident in Northern California on September 22, a store clerk bravely confronted an alleged shoplifter, only to be set on fire. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect, Kendall Burton, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges including assault, battery, arson, robbery, and mayhem. This horrifying incident took place at a convenience store on Appian Way in El Sobrante, just outside San Francisco.
Deputies Respond to Distress Call
At approximately 9:04 p.m., deputies received a distress call regarding a shoplifter at the convenience store. The department’s spokesperson, Jimmy Lee, informed The Epoch Times about the incident.
The confrontation escalated when the suspect poured lighter fluid on the store clerk and set him ablaze. The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Kendall Burton, a transient from El Sobrante with prior outstanding warrants. It is clear that the clerk’s heroic actions put him in grave danger.
The clerk, known as Suraj, is now out of danger and receiving medical treatment. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support him, and it has already raised an impressive $51,817 out of the $100,000 goal as of October 4, 4 p.m.Suraj’s wife, Sabeena Parajuli, expressed their overwhelming mental trauma and the financial burden of medical procedures. They are seeking assistance to cover the mounting medical bills.
