Students urge school board to put up fence after finding something gross in cafeteria.
San Jose Students Demand Action from School Board to Address Homelessness Issue
A group of students from KIPP San Jose Collegiate have asked their school board to take action against the homelessness problem that has been plaguing their school for over a year.
According to NBC Bay Area, around 20 students from the charter school have reported that homeless people have been entering their school and leaving needles on their cafeteria tables. The students have also witnessed homeless people wandering into their bathrooms and sleeping on the property.
During a recent meeting, each of the 20 students shared their experiences and concerns. They demanded that the administration take more action to keep the homeless out, such as building a fence around the premises. Currently, there is a large encampment right next to the school.
“We see them coming into our bathrooms. We have them sleeping in our athletic shed and we also have them breaking fences and doing drugs on the lunch table,” said student Alfredo Hernández.
