Supreme Court approves pipeline construction, denies environmentalists’ pleas.

The Supreme Court Allows Construction ‍of‌ the Mountain Valley Pipeline to Resume

The Supreme ⁣Court has made⁢ a significant ⁢decision to allow the construction⁤ of ‍the Mountain Valley Pipeline to resume. This comes after an emergency petition from the‌ project’s ⁣developers, which led to ⁢the court granting an application ‌to vacate all stays ⁤against the pipeline’s construction.

Previously, lower courts had ordered a halt to the construction ⁤while⁤ legal challenges against ⁢it were ongoing. However, ‌the Supreme Court’s ⁤order temporarily overrides these orders, giving the green light ‍for construction⁤ to continue.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a natural gas pipeline that spans approximately 303 miles between northwestern West ⁣Virginia and‍ southern Virginia. According to Governor Jim Justice’s website, ‍this project aims to enhance energy ⁢infrastructure in the region.

A ⁤Victory for Democratic Senator Joe Manchin

This decision by the Supreme Court represents a major success for Democratic West‌ Virginia ⁤Senator Joe ⁤Manchin, who⁤ has been a strong supporter of the pipeline. Manchin‌ had criticized the⁤ Fourth Circuit for issuing a ⁢stay against a ‌section of the pipeline’s construction, calling it “unlawful.”

President Joe ⁣Biden⁢ and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy‌ also played a‌ role in fast-tracking the ‍pipeline’s construction as part of a debt-ceiling⁣ deal. Their agreement instructed federal agencies to issue⁣ all outstanding permits for the pipeline, allowing for its completion.

“The Supreme Court has spoken, and⁣ this decision to‍ let construction of ⁤the⁣ Mountain Valley Pipeline move forward again is ⁣the correct one,” said ‍Senator Manchin in a statement.

The Biden ⁢administration also supported‌ the pipeline’s developers, urging⁤ the Supreme Court to vacate the stays against construction⁤ from lower ‌courts.

Environmentalists, ⁤however, have vehemently opposed the pipeline’s construction, targeting Senator Manchin for his support of fossil fuel interests.
