The suspect in an officer-involved shooting at a Knoxville, Tennessee high school has been killed. During a press conference Monday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said the suspect was a student at Austin-East Magnet High School.
Officers from the Knoxville Police Department reportedly confronted the student in a bathroom after being warned he might be armed. The suspect reportedly opened fire, in turn, shooting an officer in the upper leg. The officer then returned fire and ended up killing the student.
The injured officer is said to be recovering at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

“This was unfortunate: this is not Knoxville, this is not the community that we are,” stated Police Chief Eve Thomas. “It’s unfortunate and a very sad incident, but hopefully it’s not to be repeated and we will do everything out power to make sure it’s not repeated.”
In the meantime, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is spearheading the investigation. TBI special agents are expected to review video evidence of the shooting as well as question witnesses at the crime scene.
