Suspect In Dallas Zoo Monkey-Napping Was Behind Other Animal Disappearances, And Says He’ll Do It Again
The man charged with stealing a pair of monkeys from the Dallas Zoo is also behind the other animal escapes, and he says he’ll do it again.
According to police affidavits, obtained by the Dallas Morning NewsDavion, a 24-year-old suspect, claimed that he was behind at minimum three of the incidents. Four disappearances of animals It took place in January. Also, the suspect stated that he will try to take more animals if he is freed. Irvin is being charged with animal cruelty on multiple counts, including stealing the monkeys.
According to police affidavits Irvin was asking questions about the animals at the zoo and how they were moved. “Where do y’all get the monkeys from and how do y’all shift them around?” According to reports, he asked a zookeeper several questions. The affidavits said that he asked the same questions about the zoo’s tigers.
He asked the same questions to a zookeeper two days before he allegedly took the emperor-tamarins. “Where can [I] get one and how do y’all get them in at night?” According to the affidavits, Irvin asked a zookeeper for help on January 29. “How do you catch the birds and where do they go at night?” He said it separately. The affidavits said that he wrote the zookeeper’s answers on a piece of tissue paper.
He asked the same questions to another employee at the langur monkey and clouded leopard exhibits. “How do you handle them and are they aggressive?” He asked. Despite not being taken, Irvin is accused of severing the enclosure housing the langur monkeys.
Later on, Irvin entered a staff-only area. He was asked to leave and a zoo employee followed Irvin around the zoo till he returned home.
His first attempt at it was on January 13. Police reported that Irvin stated to police that he entered zoo with intent to take Nova, the big cat. “but could only manage to pet it” She leapt to the top and he was there! “unable to retrieve it.” On the night of January 29, he waited till nightfall and then jumped a fence to reach the exhibit for the Emperor Tamarin.
Then he “cut the metal mesh, went through the door, cut the enclosure where the monkeys were in and took them.” He boarded the light rail train that took him to the home vacant, where he was eventually able to recover them.
Irvin also stated to police that he “loved animals,” He stated that he will return to the zoo to steal animals again, if he is freed from jail.
Friday’s announcement by police stated that they had Arrest Irvin was charged in connection to the disappearances of the emperor-tamarins. The two emperor tamarins, Bella and Finn, were taken early Tuesday morning, but they were returned that day.
Police received a tip via social media that the suspect was being spotted in an abandoned Lancaster house. The house caught the eye of neighbors due to its previous burglary and the fact that animals had been discovered inside. Dallas Morning News reported. The tip was reported to police who found the house unlocked, unoccupied and abandoned. Officers discovered several cats, pigeons and tamarins in the house.
He is Charged He was charged with six counts for animal cruelty, non-livestock. He is currently being held in several bonds amounting to $25,000.
