Suspected Paul Pelosi Attacker David DePape Pleads Not Guilty
The suspect in the attack on Paul Pelosi has reportedly pleaded guilty Wednesday to all charges levelled against him by the state during a court appearance. according Fox News.
David DePape (42), allegedly attacked Nancy Pelosi (D–CA), husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The apparent intruder was reportedly demanding to know the speaker’s whereabouts.
Fox News reported that DePape was being charged by the prosecution with attempted murder and assault with a deadly instrument, as well as elder abuse. Fox News reported that DePape pleaded not guilty in federal and state court to the charges. He was also accused of plotting to kidnap Nancy Pelosi.
Adam Lipson, DePape’s public defender, said that the suspected attacker “is going to be fighting this case in court, not the hallway,” ABC News reported.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement following Wednesday’s arraignment that “Mr. DePape will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and held accountable for his heinous crimes,” According to the outlet.
The speaker’s husband suffered a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm. According to a spokesperson, he is expected to fully recover.
Two weeks ago body camera footage was shown in court and allegedly showed DePape striking Paul Pelosi.
San Francisco Police Sgt. Carla Hurley — who interviewed DePape after he was detained — reported that the suspect said that there was an “evil in Washington” Fox News reported that he had an extensive hit list of people who he wanted to confront when he was caught by authorities.
The House Speaker, Governor Gavin Newsom (D–CA), actor Tom Hanks and Hunter Biden were on the list.
Fox News reported that DePape has waived his right for a trial within 60-days and will appear again in court on February 23.
