Tammy Murphy’s campaign manager departs amidst momentum challenges
Tammy Murphy’s Campaign Manager Exits Amidst Challenging Senate Race
Tammy Murphy’s campaign manager, Max Glass, has made an unexpected departure from the team, leaving the New Jersey first lady’s campaign for U.S. Senate in a state of uncertainty.
The campaign has not disclosed the reason behind Glass’s exit and has yet to announce a replacement for the role. Glass, who joined Murphy’s campaign in January, had previously worked on various Democratic campaigns in Connecticut, North Carolina, and other states.
“We are extremely grateful for the value and the passion that Max brought to our team and his efforts to stand up this campaign,”
Alex Altman, the Murphy campaign spokeswoman, expressed gratitude for Glass’s contributions.
The race to replace Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has proven to be a formidable challenge for Murphy’s campaign. Following Menendez’s indictment in September on charges of accepting bribes for political favors, prominent Democrats in the deep-blue state have called for Menendez to step down and have shown openness to supporting a new candidate to unseat the senior senator.
Murphy, the wife of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, initially emerged as the front-runner in the race, receiving support from party leaders when she announced her candidacy in November. However, she has since faced setbacks, including losing the Democratic convention in her home county of Monmouth and facing criticism regarding nepotism due to her marriage to the state’s governor.
Currently, Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) holds the lead in the race to unseat Menendez. A February poll showed Murphy trailing Kim by a significant margin. Menendez has not yet confirmed whether he will run for reelection.
The Democratic conventions are currently taking place in the Garden State, where the party will determine which candidate will appear on New Jersey’s unique county line system for the June 4 primary. This system groups party-backed candidates together on one ballot line, while non-party-backed candidates are listed separately. The county line system has historically provided a significant advantage to party-backed candidates, highlighting the importance of the conventions.
Democratic conventions are scheduled to take place in Burlington and Hunterdon counties this weekend, with Kim expected to secure victory in his home county of Burlington.

Despite the challenges, the Murphy campaign remains confident in its ability to succeed.
“We have momentum and a clear path to winning the primary on June 4 and making Tammy Murphy the Democratic nominee to the U.S. Senate in this November’s election,”
Altman affirmed the campaign’s optimism for the future.
How will the departure of Glass, the campaign manager, impact Murphy’s ability to effectively navigate the upcoming challenges in the race
Ting bribes, the race to fill his seat has received heightened attention and scrutiny. Murphy, the wife of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, entered the race in October with hopes of continuing the progressive agenda championed by her husband’s administration.
However, the campaign has faced several setbacks and obstacles in recent months. In December, Murphy’s campaign was rocked by a scandal involving allegations of sexual harassment by a former staffer. The allegations were swiftly denied by the campaign and an investigation was launched, but the incident created a cloud of controversy around the campaign.
In addition to the harassment scandal, Murphy’s campaign has struggled to gain traction in a crowded field of Democratic candidates. Several high-profile candidates, including Congressman Andy Kim and State Senator Troy Singleton, have already thrown their hats into the ring, making the race even more competitive.
The departure of Glass, the campaign manager, adds further uncertainty to Murphy’s candidacy. As the primary election approaches, the need for strong leadership and effective management is crucial. Without a replacement for Glass, the Murphy campaign may struggle to effectively navigate the challenges ahead.
Despite the challenges, Murphy remains committed to her campaign and the issues she hopes to address if elected to the Senate. She has highlighted her support for a $15 minimum wage, affordable healthcare, and gun control as key priorities. Murphy has also emphasized her experience as a former public school teacher and advocacy for education reform.
As the race continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Murphy will adapt to the changing dynamics and setbacks. With the primary election scheduled for June, time is running out for the campaign to regroup and reassert its position in the race. The departure of Glass may be seen as a setback, but Murphy and her team are determined to press on and make their case to New Jersey voters.
