Tax rebates 2023: Eligible residents to receive up to $3,000 over the summer
Eligible Montana residents have the opportunity to receive multiple tax rebates of up to $3,000 each over the summer.
Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bills 192 and 222 into law on March 13, which provide rebates for residents’ individual income taxes and property taxes. To qualify, residents must have filed their individual income taxes for 2020 and 2021 on time, have been full-time residents for all of 2020 and 2021, and not have been claimed by someone else as a dependent. For HB 222, residents must have owned property in Montana for at least seven months.
The majority of possible funds are provided by HB 192, with a maximum of $2,500 for couples filing jointly and $1,250 for individuals filing separately. Those eligible for HB 222 will receive a lump sum of $500.
The Montana Department of Revenue will begin issuing individual income tax rebates in July and property tax rebates on August 15. Residents can choose to receive their individual income tax rebates either electronically or through the mail, depending on their preference indicated in the tax form.
