Team Trump gins up supporters in new video before inauguration eve rally
EXCLUSIVE — President-elect Donald Trump is trying to hype up his supporters with an inauguration eve video after his hopes of being sworn in as commander in chief for a second time before a sprawling crowd on Washington, D.C.‘s National Mall were dashed by concerns regarding the weather.
INAUGURATION DAY 2025: EVERYTHING TO KNOW AHEAD OF TRUMP TAKING OFFICE
In a video compilation of clips from his campaign rallies and first inaugural address to comments on the White House‘s South Lawn and beyond, Trump underscores his campaign slogan-election promise to Make America Great Again.
“I just want to tell you that America is the greatest place on earth,” Trump says in the video. “There is nothing we cannot do and no height we cannot achieve.”
“We’re going to make these the four greatest years in the history of our country,” the president-elect adds, from separate remarks. “We are one people, one family, and one glorious nation under God. We will make America great again. We love you. Thank you. God bless everybody.”
The video, the capstone of a series produced by the Republican National Committee in conjunction with Trump’s inaugural committee before inauguration day, concludes with images of Trump embracing the flag at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
The video, circulated Sunday morning, coincides with that afternoon’s snow-capped Make America Great Again rally at Capital One Arena that will include an appearance from Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, in addition to performances from Kid Rock, The Village People, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Trump will then be inaugurated inside the U.S. Capitol‘s Rotunda on Monday before a smaller crowd, which will likely still include China‘s Vice President Han Zheng and billionaire donors to his campaign and inaugural fund, after his swearing-in ceremony was moved from a platform on the Capitol’s West Front because of the weather. Monday’s temperature is expected to reach a high of 23 degrees, but the range will feel closer to 5 and 13 degrees because of the wind chill. This is the first time an inauguration has been in the Rotunda since the late Ronald Reagan’s second swearing-in in 1985.
“The weather was really looking bad in terms of the coldness,” he told NBC on Saturday. “It would have been dangerous for a lot of people, the crowds and everything else. So I think we made the right decision. We’ll be very comfortable now.”
Some of the 250,000 people who were ticketed to watch Trump’s inauguration on the National Mall will now have to witness history through a livestream projected in the 21,000-person Capital One Arena in downtown D.C., though many will miss out on that experience and what has been described as an indoor parade. The balls, including the Liberty Ball, where the president-elect and incoming first lady Melania Trump will have their first dance as the country’s first couple again and rapper Nelly is scheduled to entertain the crowd, will go ahead as planned.
Trump arrived in the D.C. area on Saturday night, accompanied by the first lady and their son Barron, with their first stop the Trump National Golf Club Washington DC in Sterling, Virginia, for a fireworks display.
In the same interview with NBC, Trump previewed that his second inaugural address will center on “unity,” “strength,” and “fairness,” as well as his preparation to sign a “record-setting number” of executive orders and other actions “right after this speech,” which will “most likely” include providing social media application TikTok with a 90-day reprieve from the bipartisan Chinese divestment law amid speculation his administration could start conducting illegal immigrant raids as early as Tuesday.
“We’re already geared up, and it will begin,” he said. “Very simple statement, we have to get the criminals that have come here illegally out of our country.”
Trump is anticipated to make a trip to California during his first week back in the White House as the state contends with deadly wildfires in and around Los Angeles.
